The camp began for boys in 2001 at Shenandoah University with children from the Washington DC area sharing a dorm room with a boy from the Shenandoah Valley. Since 2008 the camp has been a day camp for children who are chose by school personnel from Frederick and Clarke counties and the city of Winchester. Participants are selected baced on finacial need, their love of playing sports, and demonstration of good sportsmanship and cooperative spirit. Being a good athlete is not a requirement. The camp is staffed by a paid director, associate director, various coaches, hiking and rock climbing leaders. Volunteers, including high school youth, provide coaching assistance and lunch and snack preparation. A counselor in Training program is open to former campers who have outgrown the program but wish to stay involved. All gifts to Hi-Five Sports Camp are tax deductible.
